After six years serving Springwood Presbyterian Church, we embarked on an exciting three-month sabbatical during the summer of 2007.  In most every regard this was a new experience for us as we traveled to Guatemala, Belize, Peru, Italy, and England.  We had four goals:

• Resting:  Sabbath.  A time to catch our breath.  A time to reflect on where we have been and where God has brought us to now.  Time for exercise. Time to play and have fun.
• Reconnecting:  Opportunities to reconnect in our marriage and family life. To connect more deeply to God.  To connect to new persons and new cultures (and learn Spanish).  To connect to missionaries and ministries in other lands.  And to reconnect with God's creation.
• Renewing:  Allowing God's Spirit to awaken our spirits.
• Returning:  Yes, we'll be back! We look forward to rejoining you in September, ready to go.

We are very grateful to the people of Springwood Church for their love and support.  And we are especially indebted to the Lilly Endowment's National Clergy Renewal Program whose generous grant funded this time for us and the church.
